Biotechnology Intro | A Thing of the Past | Not all protons, neutrons and electrons! Biotechnology ___Biotechnology is one of the most debated but least understood frontiers of Science. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) defines Biotechnology as "The application of scientific and engineering principles to the processing of materials by biological agents to provide goods and services". ___Biotechnological processes have been used in the manufacture of bread, cheese, and wine since ancient times. Modern biotechnological applications, such as stem cells, gene therapy, genetic engineering, and the Human Genome Project, have captured public imagination. Biotechnology has revolutionised Forensic Science, medicine, food production, industrial processing, and the pharmaceutical industry.
Team
manager: Fendy D. Putra ___“I have never been a team leader before. This project was a very good opportunity since the posts are expected to be filled by people with little experience in that position… I am now even more confident of my major, and I hope that the articles from my team’s reporters would be able to do the same for others”. Producer:
Ju Lynn ___“Hi there! As I’m majoring in Psychology, I knew very little about Biotechnology. I was really lost during the interview with the scientist that I’m assigned to and had to pretend as if I understood what was going on. However, I really learned a great deal through DIS, and it opened up the world of Biotechnology for me.” Reporter:
Praveen Nithiyendran ___“It was interesting seeing the other roles that university lecturers undertake, such as negotiating contracts, and also learning how to forge a successful career in science”. Reporter:
An Ngyuen ___An Ngyuen interviewed Professor Marc Wilkins from the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science at UNSW. Biotechnology Intro | A Thing of the Past | Not all protons, neutrons and electrons! |
