The
Building Blocks of Life: Kristen Symonds

The colourful
environment of the clinics attended by children and their parents.

This is Carolyn drawing a pedigree while learning about the family history
of two boys with autism.

Each patient file contains a pedigree like this. Robyn will use these
pedigrees to determine who needs to be tested for MD genes. The shaded
square is an affected male. The circles are females. In this family, the
mother and sister would be tested first. If they don’t have the
MD gene, testing stops there. If they do, the other women in the family
(circles on the chart) will need to be tested.
