Welcome to the website for 'A day in the life of science: Australia'

This site offers a snapshot of various fields of science here in Australia on the 15th of April 2005. These articles were compiled by Advanced Science students from the University of New South Wales, as a career guide for future scientists who are now in high school and university.

This website aims to provide insight into the daily life of a scientist as it informs you about small slices of the scientific world. We found that science is a diverse and collaborative process. Australian scientists share and distribute information with colleagues all over the globe, and scientists work hand-in-hand across disciplines to gain an understanding of how the world works.

As aspiring scientists ourselves, we have benefitted from gaining an insider's perspective on the domains that we are hoping to enter, places where information is prized above all. Building on this principle of Science, our project has fostered open communication of information and ideas within the class (and to you, our readers). So it has prepared us for an exciting foray into the unknown. We shadowed 'real-life' scientists for a day and gained an insight into life on the other side of the 'Lecturer - Student Divide'. We have then collaborated to produce a collection of informative and intriguing articles that investigate 'A Day in the Life of Science'.
Our stories from a uniquely Australian perspective have been accompanied by similar efforts made around the world, such as in Spain, Uruguay, Scotland, and the USA. These investigations, on this very same day, are part of the 'World-Wide Day in Science' project.
