Deep into the MarineBy Julien Reyes

A fish's best friend

The world is consuming fish at the fastest rate ever recorded. Roughly 80- 90 million tonnes of fish is consumed by humans every year. That comes to approximately 14kg of fish per person per year. This does not take into account predation by other marine animals. From these figures you can understand the need for conservation.

Conservation of fish is the livelihood of Iain Suthers, associate professor at the University of New South Wales specialising in marine and fisheries research. Who would have thought a fish's best friend could be a human?
