Vogelnest the VetBy Melissa Vargus

Valued veterinarian

The life of a veterinarian can be a hectic one, not often boring or repetitive, and there is definitely choice amongst the many places and roles offered. From simply caring for zoo animals, to preparing them for shows, and even to dealing with criminal offences involving animals; the life of this vet is a spectacular one. I was lucky enough to follow Dr. Larry Vogelnest, a Senior veterinarian, teacher, and family man, on 18th April 2007, at Taronga Zoo where I was definitely run off my feet.

Dr. Vogelnest mostly works with endangered Brush-Tailed Rock-Wallabies, penguins, and was recently on the plane with elephants coming to Australia. Who said life in science had to be boring?
