Molecular Genetics at the Cutting EdgeBy Philipp Dietrich

Our world is still a mystery

We don't know how many other animal species we share the world with. While invertebrates account for most of the unknown, vertebrates are also still being discovered. For example, genetic analysis of whales that come close to shore has revealed several new species. Just think how many more could live in deeper water. How about other animal species? Roughly only one tenth of marine species have been described, making life in the water a mystery.

So what does a beaked whale look like?
