Where did Australian birds originate? Who are their ancestors? Why are Australian avifauna so unique compared to the rest of the world? How are we going to answer these questions and the hundreds of others that are asked everyday? Studying evolution and developing a tree of bird ancestry relies on comparing genetics and physical structures of every bird in existence, whether alive or extinct. This is a huge job that requires a huge number of people.
