The natural recyclers

Microbiology is the study of the microorganisms, such as fungi and bacteria. While some microorganisms are the cause of various diseases, others are so beneficial we couldn't live without them. For example, yeast (a single celled fungus) is used to brew beer, and we all know that some people just can't live without that!

Microorganisms are able to recycle almost anything. From rubber to plastic, toxic chemicals to heavy metals, you name it they eat it. This is essential for the proper functioning of our earth, and underlies the importance of microbiology.
