The Low Down
On Saturday the 17th of May, I helped to monitor the Bandicoot population at North Head, Manly.
The Bandicoot population at North Head is endangered. Because of this, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the BEES faculty at UNSW have been monitoring the population since 2002.
The population is monitored by trapping and tagging the Bandicoots. This is done once every three months. Small metal cages are left out overnight. The bait - peanut butter sandwiches (a Bandicoot's favourite food, of course).
