Andrea grew up and studiedElectrical Engineeringin Italy. Half way through, he decided he wanted to do something more experimental and practical.

Science was the answer. He studied physics Honours at theGrenoble High Magnetic Field Laboratoryin France. The best thing about this was the amazing people he met. “You're only an Honours student and you're having coffee with Nobel Laureates,” Andrea says. Through the contacts he made there, he was accepted for a PhD in the Netherlands where he studiedquantum magnetism(magnetism at the atomic level and smaller).

After he completed his PhD, he was offered a job in Canada. There he met the director for theCentre for Quantum Computer Technology at UNSW (CQCT)and eventually ended up here in Australia.
