Can we reverse... oh what is it called... memory loss? By Natasha Boustani

Curing Disease

Our body is made of many types ofcells, one of which isneurons.Neurons pass impulses from our brain to other parts of the body. Neurons cannot regenerate, and if they dies, they are gone forever. For this reason, diseases such asAlzheimer'sand spinal cord injuries cannot be cured at present.

Tala is researching themammaliannose. This is the only place where neurons regenerate naturally. Through understanding how neurons regenerate in the nose, Tala hopes to discover if neurons in the brain or spinal cord could also regenerate. This could reverse paralysis or Alzheimer's Disease.
